Digital Ship Daily: Navtor's Risk Route Planning; Smartsea in Singapore Cruise Center; Shipnet's Dry Dock Software; Deployable Energy's Zero Emission

Norwegian e-navigation firm NAVTOR is teaming up with Denmark’s Risk Intelligence to add real-time security alerts to its NavStation software.
What it does: The upgrade layers threats like piracy, GPS jamming, and smuggling risks directly onto ship routes, giving crews a chance to reroute before departure.
“This partnership helps our customers stay safe in increasingly complex waters,” said NAVTOR CEO Tor Svanes.
The bottom line: Think Google Maps, but instead of traffic jams, it warns you about pirates, navigational jamming and spoofing….read more

Singapore Cruise Centre just rolled out Asia’s first interoperable boarding system with SmartSea, letting cruise passengers self-check-in and drop bags; no staff required.

“This is a first for Asia and sets a new standard for passenger convenience,” said Singapore Cruise Centre CEO Christina Siaw.
The bottom line: Cruise terminals are chasing airports in the race to go fully self-service, and Singapore just pulled ahead….read more
Every day a ship sits in dry dock costs operators thousands. Shipnet says its project management tool is helping cut that time, and the bills.
The numbers: Since its launch in 2021, the app has been used in 486 projects, growing 185% since 2023. Crews can log updates offline and sync later, while managers get a complete view of every repair job.
“We strategically pivoted from a purely feature-rich offering to a solution addressing real end-user needs,” said Anil Bhardwaj, Shipnet’s Web and Mobile Product Owner.
The bottom line: Fewer delays in dry dock means more days at sea—and more money in shipowners’ pockets….read more

Where operational excellence meets net zero ambition
Lloyd’s Register is working with Houston-based Deployable Energy to chart a path for micro-nuclear reactors on ships.
What’s new: Deployable Energy’s Unity Nuclear Battery uses low-enriched uranium and a modular, factory-built design to deliver zero-emission power for vessels. LR is advising on safety cases and regulatory approval.
“These features directly address key barriers to adoption and align with the safety and reliability expectations of classification and regulatory frameworks,” said Mark Tipping, Global Power to X Director at Lloyd’s Register.
The bottom line: Nuclear-powered ships are still years out, but the groundwork for certifying them is already under way….read more
