The voice of IT Leadership in the commercial maritime industry

Rotterdam-based Onboard has appointed Sander Zwanenburg as Chief Commercial Officer to drive international expansion and deepen customer engagement in maritime digitalization.

Why it matters: The move reinforces Onboard’s focus on helping shipowners turn operational data into measurable performance and sustainability outcomes.

“At Onboard we believe that technology alone doesn’t create value — the way it’s implemented and used does,” said Florus Wilming, Co-Founder of Onboard.

The bottom line: With new leadership and a growing global presence, Onboard is a key player in the maritime digital ecosystem….read more

Dutch tech firm Gelectric has launched Digital Noon Reports, a system that transforms existing vessel report emails into analytics dashboards; no onboard hardware, no integration required.

Why it matters: Operators can now unlock compliance and performance insights from their existing daily reports without digital overhaul.

“Many fleets already have valuable data hidden in their daily reports. We’re making that data instantly usable,” said Efil Bengisu Saygı, CEO of Gelectric.

The bottom line: By automating the humble noon report, Gelectric is making digital fleet analytics accessible to any operator, large or small….read more

Evergreen Line is rolling out ORBCOMM’s smart dry container technology across its global fleet. The system tracks location, temperature, and door openings in real time, providing visibility and security for cargo.

Why it matters: Dry containers, once passive assets, are becoming data-rich nodes in global supply chains, offering transparency and protection.

“This move signals a broader shift in the maritime industry where dry containers are rapidly evolving from static assets into smart, connected, intelligent units,” said Sameer Agrawal, CEO of ORBCOMM.

The bottom line: Smart containers are redefining logistics visibility and pushing shipping closer to full-scale digital transformation….read more

Where operational excellence meets net zero ambition

Ocean Winds has renewed its partnership with Spinergie for a third year to sharpen fleet analysis and project benchmarking. The offshore wind developer uses Spinergie’s real-time vessel and project data to manage efficiency and vessel availability across 17 projects in eight countries.

Why it matters: As offshore wind faces cost pressures and vessel bottlenecks, data-driven planning is key to keeping projects on track.

“Spinergie enables us to benchmark our project plans against the broader market,” said Oscar Diaz, Chief EPCI Officer at Ocean Winds. “We can more readily identify vessel opportunities and stay a step ahead of the tightening supply chain.”

The bottom line: Real-time insight is becoming offshore wind’s most valuable….read more

The Northern Ireland Fishermen’s Federation (NIFF) is partnering with Iceland’s Hefring Marine to pilot smart vessel systems that monitor fuel use and vessel performance in real time. Supported by the Marine Environment & Fisheries Fund, the trial aims to improve safety and reduce emissions across the fishing fleet.

Why it matters: With rising fuel costs and decarbonization targets tightening, digital efficiency tools could redefine sustainable fishing.

“Fuel represents one of the most significant operating costs for fishing vessels,” said Adam Holland, Fisheries Sustainability Officer. “By working with Hefring Marine, we aim to give vessel operators the tools to monitor and manage their consumption more effectively.”

The bottom line: If successful, this pilot could modernize Northern Ireland’s fishing operations and set a model for greener practices across the UK….read more
