Digital Ship Daily: Offshore Electrification; Maritime Connectivity; Clean Propulsion

The voice of IT Leadership in the commercial maritime industry

Digitalisation and electrification produce extraordinary results for Norwegian offshore operators. Digitalisation, advancing hand-in-hand with the electrification of ships, is bringing remarkable efficiency gains in the workboat segment, one of the most formidable sectors in which to attempt to lower costs. For Olympic Subsea, the results speak for themselves: generations of its offshore vessels have reduced fuel consumption by 83%, from 18 tonnes burned per operating day to just three tonnes, according to CEO Stig Remøy.

Minimise Mistakes, Maximise Impact

Every screen switch is a chance for error. When communication and action are separated, context gets lost, duplication creeps in, and costly mistakes follow. Sedna unifies email, integrations, and voyage management into a single operating system, keeping context and action together. The result: fewer errors, faster execution, and decisions made with full visibility. Sedna reduces risk while giving teams the clarity they need to deliver impact at scale.

Tankerska Plovidba has completed a major upgrade of its fleet connectivity as it moves toward more integrated and data-driven vessel operations. The Croatian owner is investing in security, bandwidth and crew welfare as digital demands grow across global shipping.

Coastal Transportation has selected Inmarsat Maritime’s NexusWave service to modernise the digital backbone of its Alaskan cargo fleet. The company aims to strengthen cyber security and ensure uninterrupted vessel connectivity as operational demands increase.

Where operational excellence meets net zero ambition

Kongsberg Maritime has secured a major supply contract with Med Marine for thrusters and winches across nine next-generation tug designs. The agreement includes Med Marine’s new all-electric VoltRA tug, signalling a stronger push toward low-emission harbour operations.

RAD Propulsion has introduced its most powerful electric drive to date as demand rises for clean, high thrust marine propulsion. The new RAD 120 is aimed at commercial, defence and leisure builders seeking practical zero-emission systems that do not sacrifice performance.

Yesterday's Most Engaging Story:

Hapag-Lloyd’s next generation of large container ships places efficiency and emissions reduction at the centre of their design. With construction underway in China, TMC Compressors has been selected to supply the compressed air systems that will support the vessels’ low emission operations. The project highlights how equipment makers are adapting to the sector’s changing fuel and engine choices.
